The Nu Plac filter canister No. 17 was an industrial filter for use where organic vapours were present. According to Nu Plac the No. 17 filter could be used with organic vapours such as – aldehydes, alcohols, acetone, benzine, butyl acetate, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, ethers, formaldehyde, kerosene, lacquer and phenol.

Each type of Nu Plac canister was tested using a specific gas by Messrs. B. V. Heath & Associates – Consulting chemists and public analysts, of Melbourne.

The price of a No. 17 filter canister in Nov. 1958 was £1.17.6 ea. (Pounds, Shillings & Pence).
